The Seven Deadly Sins....

The deadly sin of Pride - a love of self, perverted to hatred and contempt for one’s neighbor.

The deadly sin of Envy - the pain caused by the good fortune of others. It is a reluctance to see our own well-being shadowed by another's.

The deadly sin of Avarice (Greed) - The sinner learns to turn his desire from possessions, power, or position towards God. It is a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things.

The deadly sin of Gluttony - The soul’s desire to eat a forbidden fruit causes its shade to starve.

The deadly sin of Sloth - The spiritual laziness and lack of caring lead to Sadness, and so blessed are they that mourn for they shall be conforted. For those who refuse to enjoy the goodness of the world created, Satan finds some mischief still for idle hands to do.

The deadly sin of Wrath - The transgressions borne of vengeance are among the most serious, including murder and assault. It is a love of Justice perverted to Revenge and Spite, encompassing all anger internal and external.

The deadly sin of Lust - All of those who committed sexual sins are purified by fire. Excessive sexual desire misdirects one’s love from God. Perhaps because all sin has its roots in misguided love, every soul who has completed his penance on the lower six cornices must pass through the wall of flame before ascending to the Earthly Paradise.
